I love the idea of having a word for an entire year. Rather than resolutions, set an intention for the whole new year ahead. I don't know who came up with this brilliant idea, but they deserve a high five. Resolutions always left me feeling defeated and like a failure. I'd set a ridiculous number of unattainable "goals" that I'd maybe follow through until mid February. Am I the only one?
But this whole idea of simply letting a word be your theme or intention actually works! From personal experience, I can say that even when your year is full of twists, turns, and transitions, having one word to come back to anchors you and reminds you of what you're shooting for. I've really seen the power of a steady focus and implementation of a single word.
I'm excited to have a new word for 2018 and I invite YOU to have a word also!
Let your 2018 Word be your theme for the year, your daily intention, your promise to yourself, and your very own practice.
If you got to choose a theme song for your year what would it be? Whatever tune it is, it would play in the background of every day. That's what your word is like! It's always in the background, in the back of your mind, and something you can just get jiggy to.
When you do something with intention, you do it on purpose. It's easy to go through the motions and not intentionally make something happen. Something that can help is to post your word somewhere you'll see it every day. Maybe say it to yourself every morning in an affirmation or prayer so that you go into each day with the intention of your word.
Your word is like a promise you make to yourself. It's something that you commit to living for the entire year. Choose to the be dedicated to this one word for all of 2018! Don't let yourself off the hook, but hold yourself accountable to the promise you made.
How you choose to live your word is totally up to you! If you are a person who loves goals, I'm sure your word can be broken into little goals. If you're like me and need a focal point to shoot for, let your word guide you in how you live. If you're constantly practicing your word- through focus or goals- it will become natural to you. What you practice will get stronger!
My word for 2018 is consistency. I'm so excited to see how this word changes my life. I can't wait to write about it as 2018 unfolds. Here's to a year of consistency!
What's your word? I'd LOVE to hear.
Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best in 2018,
